Themeda japonica

Japanese themeda
Native to lowlands and low mountains in Japan, China and India. It possesses a unique sculptural
form that can be an intriguing addition to the garden. Strictly clumping with leafy stems
radiating from the base to create a broad fountain of foliage to 1.5m tall. Leaves to 6mm wide,
bright green in summer turning rich golden-orange by early November. Blooms in late summer,
the flowers clustered along the upper portions of the stems and relatively insignificant.
This warm-season grower begins growth late in spring but on a broad range of soils and extremely
drought tolerant once established.
