Giant feather grass,
giant-oat
Native to Spain, Portugal and Morocco. The largest feather grass. Leaves narrow, to 3mm wide,
forming large tufted basal foliage to 50cm tall, evergreen in mild climates. Blooms June to
August, the loose, open panicles held high above the foliage on stems to 2.4m tall. The
spikelets are golden, with awns to 12cm long, and are especially dramatic when moving with a
summer breeze, lit by sun. Superb for cut or dried arrangements and a wonderful feature grass
in the border. This is a cool-season grower. Does not survive waterlogged winter conditions.
