Wool grass
Native to wet meadows and swamps in northeastern North America. Very ornamental, with
large woolly inflorescences on erect stems to 1.5m tall. Blooms in midsummer, the flowers green
at first, becoming softly woolly and light brown as seeds mature in late summer. Remains upright
and attractive throughout winter. Forms dense tussocks, with many arching basal leaves in summer.
Effective as a container subject.
