Phalaris arundinacea
(Poaceae)
Reed canary grass
This is a cool season, perennial species native to both North America and Eurasia,
usually in moist places, including marshes and riverbanks. Typically green-leaved,
stems are mostly upright, to 1.5m tall, flowering in June. If cut back midseason,
they produce a strong new flush of leaves that remains attractive into early winter.
A striking addition to the garden, useful as accents or groundcovers. Also superb
when grown in pots.
Ht. 1.5m. Very hardy
