Nodding pearl grass,
Mountain melic
Native to Europe, Russia, North and Southwest Asia. Found in woodlands,
between shady rocks and slopes. A loose clump-former with bright green leaves
that turn yellow in autumn, spreading by underground rhizomes. Easily recognised
by the short, wide spikelets, each of a single flower only, borne on the slender branches
of a long drooping panicle. Good for naturalising in woodlands.
