Hairy melic grass,   silky-spike melic

Native to Europe, northern Africa, and Southwest Asia. The showiest melic grass. Leaves mostly basal, the flowering stems rising above and arching over the foliage to 9m. The narrow flower panicles are silky-white, fading to cream. A delightful addition to the spring garden. Compact and suited to smaller spaces, or effective in sweeps and masses. Prefers sun or light shade, moist or moderately dry.
