Native to wet sites and meadows in North America and Eurasia. Upright to 60cm tall in flower, spreading by creeping stems. Of easy culture in sun or part shade on most soils. Crushed leaves strongly sweet fragrant. The fragrant leaves have been used to scent churches on holy days and as incense or basket making by Native Americans.
