Elymus canadensis
(Poaceae)
Canada Wild Rye Grass
Native along riverbanks, prairies, open ground, and often dry sandy soil over much of the
United Stated and Canada. Clump-forming, 1-2m tall, flowering in mid to late summer.
The inflorescences are reminiscent of cultivated rye, nodding gently and remaining attractive
long into winter. The foliage is coarse-textured, usually green but sometimes glaucous
blue-green, although the blue colour is never as strong as that of its relative Leymus arenarius.
Of easy culture in sun on almost any soil, moist or dry.
Ht. 1-2m. Very hardy
