Chionochloa flavicans (Poaceae)

Green-leaved tussock grass

Native to high, mountainous regions of New Zealand is this fine ornamental grass. Forming dense, handsome tussocks of graceful, arching, yellowish-green foliage, it bears long plumes of silvery flowers that can be used either fresh or dried. Needs strong sun for flowering, but best in regions with cool nights. Summer blooming. Good feature plant.
